Lady in Red

Braided Up Do

I’ll use any excuse to get dressed up. A casual office environment and life as a mom means I don’t have many excuses, so I get really excited for just about any holiday. Valentine’s Day dresses started popping up early this year and I couldn’t resist this pencil dress with sleeves. You don’t see short sleeves on a lot of dresses these days, which I think is a real shame. They’re so feminine and classic.

A bright red dress with simple nude pump and delicate jewelry is an elegant combination that can be worn just about anywhere; especially this time of year. Still looking for something special to wear on Valentine’s Day? I’ve joined forces with Serene Sky to give a $25 gift card to one of you lovely gals. Disclaimer: You don’t have to love Valentine’s Day to appreciate $25 bones! I’d have to get this ring for me and this one for one of my cat-obsessed girlfriends if I won. Too bad I can’t enter! You can enter below though. Good luck!

Did I mention I don’t have many excuses to get dressed up? Between that and the fact that we will be moving to LA soon (Yes, that’s the news I was excited to share last month!) I’m getting rid of many items I don’t need – this dress happens to be one of them. It’s too tight to wear more than once a year. Shop my Poshmark closet so I don’t have to pack so many things!

These Boots Were Made for Walking

Embellished Dress

I’ve teamed up with DSW on today’s post featuring a chic pair of their boots. These boots scream Nashville to me. The city and the show.

I first tuned in to Nashville after spotting sisters, Lennon & Maisy singing  “Call Your Girlfriend” on YouTube and learned they were on the hit TV show. How could they not be?!  And while those two are wickedly talented, it was the rest of the show’s catchy songs that kept me tuning in. Juliette Barnes’ designer dresses and sultry shoe collection are almost the most dramatic thing on the show (because what can be more dramatic than multiple love triangles?) and I want to replicate basically everything.

When I found this dress (on super sale after the holidays!) it reminded me of something Juliette would wear during one of her psychological breakdowns dramatic performances. The dress paired with boots, strikes the perfect chord of rustic elegance. I would take a selfie in front of the Grand Ole Opry in this combo.

These boots are from DSW (the destination for savvy Shoe Lovers everywhere) where customers experience a breathtaking assortment of designer brands at irresistible prices every day. What’s not to love about a bargain?

Much to The Banker’s dismay, I donated my small collection of short hemlines to my younger, hotter friends’ closets shortly after having my quarter-life crisis. Fast forward to present day; there are some occasions that call for a mini dress. Admittedly, those occasions are limited for a working mom, but The Banker’s birthday is such an occasion.

To celebrate, I took him to dinner downtown which called for styling the above mini dress with a trench, heels, clutch, my new ‘choppy lob‘ and an obligatory spray tan. (No dressing to accommodate the Polar Vortex here!) I hope you all are staying warm and thank you for reading!

Something Blue

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas! I have been in Arizona enjoying time with my beloved friends and family. I wore this outfit to a dinner last week. I wanted to keep it super simple because it was a wedding rehearsal dinner where eyes must be on the bride!
I hope you all have a lovely New Year! Looking forward to a lot more fun in 2014!

A Summer Dress in Fall/Winter

Last weekend, The Banker took me to see Book of Mormon which I used as an excuse to wash my hair and slap a dress on.  I hadn’t worn this dress since summer and thought a daytime show was a good opportunity to transition a Summer staple into Fall. I had to add a few layers to avoid frostbite so I employed an old swing coat and tights.

Festive Pants

By the time late October rolls around, I’m ready for a wardrobe overhaul where plaids, sequins and velvet are welcomed with open arms. Since it’s still a little early in the holiday season, I opted to ease in to sartorial festiveness by pairing plaid pants with a basic top and solid cardigan. My great grandma’s earrings lend some much needed sparkle and you can bet that I’ll be clipping these on all season long.
P.S. I’m hosting a giveaway tomorrow that I hope you’ll come back for! Thank you so much for reading!
