I’ve been increasingly drawn to flats (growing a baby does that to me every time!) and have been reaping the comfortable benefits that the juxtaposition of classic, cool sneakers with a professional outfit will bring. When DSW asked me to team up with them by creating a spring athleisure post featuring their athletic shoes, I knew I wanted to create an office-appropriate athletic-inspired look with some versatility. I’m all for full-on ‘athleisure’ too, but buttoning it up (literally and figuratively) means you can take the look from 9-5, then into the evening with comfort, style and ease. A quality you can’t underestimate when your days leave no room for fussing with your wardrobe.
My favorite part about the whole sneakers-at-the-office look is that it is universally chic. If you’re the type who has issues leaving the house without your heels, try pairing casual kicks like these Vans with a curve-hugging pencil skirt and a crisp blazer. Wearing polished pieces with your flats will give your look a boost sans heels and give your work clothes an instant cool-girl update. If you’re like me, you wont miss your heels all day.
A beyond-stylish colleague of mine taught me early on the importance of keeping a pair of heels and tube of lipstick in your desk drawer in case of emergency. This outfit is a classic use case for those two items because it’s ridiculously easy to transition. To make this work for night, just slip some heels on, swap the blazer for a leather jacket, unbutton one or two of your shirt buttons and head out on the town.
