Not one member of the Wagner family appreciates accessories like our little Harlowe. Like many four-year-old girls, she has her own style. One that we try not to influence. One that brings me so much joy and even inspiration. I hope she always wants to wear five things in her hair at once, tights in the summer and handmade necklaces. Her innocence and fearlessness come through in so many of her choices and the fashion-y kind are sometimes the most obvious and definitely, the easiest to document. There are times I try to intervene, like when I tried to tell her that we don’t need to sleep in down jackets…in LA…in June…but she doesn’t listen to me.
^New hair accessories from BanaBean just in time for Summer. The monthly subscription box for girls keeps her hair game on point and saves me a ton of time. I love doing her hair each morning, but I’m not great at shopping for them (that might shock some of you!) and we both really enjoy having a box of cuteness arrive each month just for her.
^Bathtime fun with her unicorn towel and our favorite shampoo. It is actually a body wash, shampoo and conditioner in one and since it’s so versatile I love traveling with it. I packed it for a recent trip Oregon and somehow it ended up in Harlowe’s carry-on so sadly, I lost it going through airport security. #Fail. We like a lot of SoCozy’s products especially their mousse, gel and leave-in conditioner too. They all smell SO darn good…think mangos.
^One of my all-time favorite Harlowe pics.
What are you favorite shampoos and body washes for kids? Do you have any go-to shops for hair accessories?
Hi friends! I hope you’re having a great week so far. I’m reminiscing about family beach time and admittedly counting down the days until we can do it again! It looked cold outside on Sunday so I had everyone dressed for a beach picnic instead of splashing in the water (I don’t know what was in my Starbucks that morning…it ended up being pretty hot). We ordered Mendocino Farms for curbside pickup (they have the best gluten-free bread!) and spent hours building sand castles with Harlowe, splashing in the whitewash (and feeding Gunnar). I’m so glad we finally found a beach we like that isn’t too crowded and only 10 minutes away.
Both of our kids have been swaddled since day one and believe me when I say, we’ve tried just about everything to keep them warm and cozy. What I like about Buttermilk Babies swaddles is that while they’re great for swaddling, they can be used for so much more. (Practicality is a must when you are trying to keep the volume of baby stuff down due to limited storage space!) I use these for tummy time, as a nursing cover, stroller cover, changing table cover, cape or dress during impromptu dress-up sessions, you name it. There’s a reason they were just featured in People Magazine’s 7 Great New Baby Gifts That are Both Cute and Practical.
I got the gemstones and graffiti swaddles for our little guy and loved the print so much that I picked up this pack for a girlfriend expecting a baby this Spring. (Your daughter is getting swaddled in style, Chelsey!) If you need baby shower gifts or swaddles for your own little, now is the time to pick some up because you get 20% off your purchase by using the code BLACKFRIDAY now through November 27.
Harlowe and I decided to test out the bandana trend by fashioning matching neck accessories perfect for a gloomy day. I actually bought 12 different colors, but haven’t seen the other 10 since Harlowe found them and decided to build magic carpets all over the house. Better for her to enjoy them than to have them in a drawer I figure!
These jeans were purchased in my pre-pregnancy size. They don’t fit quite right yet. I’m 5-weeks postpartum and my body feels like a stretched-out shoe. I wouldn’t trade this body for anything since it gave me two babies, but dedicating a little bit of time to my health and fitness is going to be a welcome change! Hopefully, I can begin a fitness routine this Friday as I’ll be 6-weeks postpartum. I’m looking forward to sharing my post-pregnancy fitness journey with you! It’s not going to be easy! If you have any tips on balancing family and a fitness regimen or postpartum workouts to share I’d love to hear.
Hi friends! Did you see the blood moon? It was difficult to see in Santa Monica. Angelenos would probably say there was too much ‘haze’ but I think it was smog. I saw a faint outline of it, but mostly just lots of cool pictures on Instagram.
I’ve been living in shirt dresses like this lately. They are effortless to style. I like them dressed up with mules (like these that I scored on The Outnet) and a chain strap bag, but am usually wearing mine dressed down with slip-on flats. Oh, and my diaper bag.
After discovering the adorable mommy/daughter style blogging duo @ScoutFashion a few months ago, it’s safe to say coordinating mom and me outfits have been on my brain. I love how Scout and her mama pull it off so effortlessly, looking way too-cool-for-school while creating the most fashionable family memories together. All the coordinating mommy/daughter pieces here are on sale for Labor Day making it pretty much necessary to pull the trigger on some synchronized style to play dress up.
What are your Labor Day plans? Any sales you must shop?
One of the things I’ve loved about moving to LA is that it gives us the opportunity to explore many new places. The Venice canals are one of those LA places I’ll probably never tire of. They’re tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the city making them a quiet retreat for family walks and an energy recharge. The gondola lined waters and sidewalks lined with big, modern houses bring you from Venice Italy back to Los Angeles just by turing your head another direction. I love being able to have a spot to walk by the water that isn’t quite as crowded as our beautiful beaches.
I’m wearing another dress from Envie de Fraises (see more of their maternity looks here and here) — this dress is so comfortable I wear it at least once a week. It’s easy to dress up with lace-up sandals or dress down with sneakers or Birkenstocks… yes, I love my Birks! 🙂
I’ll be the first to admit I haven’t begun nesting. Now that we are this far in, I’m guessing it’s not happening. Aside from ensuring the necessities: car seat, bassinet, stroller, chilled chardonnay (hey, it’s been 9 months… I’m planning on having a glass the night we get home from the hospital) are secured, it’s safe to say this ‘nesting period’ has been spent taking care of other things (like Harlowe). I know at the end of the day, as long as the baby is loved and fed, everything else will work out so I don’t get too stressed out about it, but there are some things I really want to accomplish before he comes.
As for unnecessary (but fun!) tasks, documenting our family of three, plus bump was fairly high on my prep list. Harlowe turned four this month and her Baby Brother is moments from making his debut so what better time snap a few shots for the family album? We rarely have photos of the three of us because it’s always KW or I behind the lens and this will be the last time we’ll be just the three of us.
Our photographer would tell KW and I to look at each other and Harlowe would say, “You guys, look at me!”
Happy Friday! Before I shut the old lap top down for the weekend, I’m leaving you with some of my favorite small shopping haunts for little ones. These small, but mighty Instagram shops lure me time and time again with their unique, handmade kid’s pieces. If you don’t have little spawn to shop for, the cuteness overload of their posts is still worth checking out! Just think of all the unique baby shower gifts you can impress your friends with thanks to these shops. 🙂
1.@houseofmia Favorite product: Simple skirts. The prints are to die for. Like, I actually want to die when I see them because I know buying them all would deeply disturb my husband, but gosh darn it, I need them all.
2.@modernburlap Favorite product: Organic blankets. I love their simplistic black and white color stories and their hip prints.
4.@FableBaby Favorite product: anything cactus print. Being from AZ, I adore all things emblazoned with a saguaro cactus including baby clothes. This shop is based in Australia so shipping can be high. Pro tip: order a few pieces at once and save them up for baby showers or kid’s birthdays.
5.@Osusannahs Favorite product: ‘Winky eye’ pillow cases. I have a thing for cute pillows & for sassy lashes. These pillows are unique, sweet and of course, black and white. Are you picking upon a theme here? 🙂
Time to spill. What are some of your favorite Instagram shops?
1. The skyline in Telluride was snowcapped and dreamy. It was a beautiful, albeit slightly chillier than a usual June wedding, but the view can’t be beat.
2. When I travel I am all about hydration. Drinking lots of water helps me fight dry skin that I tend to get post-flying. I recently began using these brightening masks. They come in handy for travel because they come in individual packets and pack as much skin-brightening serum as a full bottle of SK-II’s super fancy serum. At first, I didn’t believe the hype over this product, but it really does make your skin brighter. A few other travel beauty essentials for me:
Dior Color Reviver Balm which works with the chemistry of your own lips to enhance the color and leave them moisturized.
Argan oil to rehydrate my face and the ends of my hair post-flight. If you haven’t tried it yet, this stuff leaves you with a beautiful dewy glow.
An organic self-tanning lotion by Vita Liberata has absolutely no tan smell and locks in moisture. The product description online says that it lasts 3-7 days (but for me it is only about 3 days). The formula is free of parabens, sulfates and phthalates so it’s the perfect addition to my cleaner prenatal beauty regimen.
5. With my growing belly (and growing lack of balance) I’ve been mixing up my workouts and my workout apparel to get me and Baby Boy Wagner through the 3rd trimester healthily. My go-to prenatal workouts are ‘running’ on the elliptical, barre classes, spin classes, yoga and walks with Harlowe! Check out my 7 Maternity Friendly Exercises video if you’re in need of some ideas or know someone who might need it!
6. Nothing says summer like pineapple and a ‘June gloom’ day in LA. Harlowe’s sweet pineapple pants are from one of our favorite Instagram shops. follow @LittleBigDreamers for cuteness overload everyday. Her shirt is LittleBanditos and adidas originals.
7. Speaking of June gloom, here it is taking over Venice beach. I participated in a flash-mob here with my team from work. Despite growing up doing drama, dance and choir, a flashmob has never been on my bucket list. I guess I could say I added it to my bucket list and crossed it off on the same day. 🙂 Here’s to hoping the video of it is uploaded as private.
