Glowing Skin Spinach Smoothie

cleanse, smoothie, breakfast smoothie, green smoothie, spinach and kale smoothie
After starting a quasi cleanse in August, I’ve been sticking to an improved diet. Mainly, replacing a nightly cocktail with a daily glass of greens. Along the way, I’ve learned some new things about fruits (they act as an illuminizer working from this inside!) and have concocted a skin-saving smoothie recipe that’s almost as good as some of the best store-bought highlighters and a whole lot tastier.

This recipe uses pineapple and papaya, which are pretty much the garbage man for all of your skin’s trash. They keep your skin happy because they are rich in antioxidants that have a bunch of digestive enzymes and hydrate the skin and help remove dead cells. I also use green apples which are loaded with vitamin C which the skin loves because it helps it repair damage against skin cells by free radicals.

Spinach is chock full of vitamins that help improve the skin’s complexion so I toss that in with some omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acid rich kale. Adding flaxseeds helps stave off depression and also gives the skin a little boost. I top it all off with coconut water which is thought to help reduce the appearance of fine lines through hydration of the skin.

Blend together:

1/2 ripe banana
1/2 cup pineapple chunks (fresh or frozen)
1/2 cup papaya chunks (fresh or frozen)
1/2 cup mango chunks (fresh or frozen)
1 green apple (sliced)
1 tsp soaked flaxseeds
2 leaves kale
1 handful of spinach
6 oz coconut water

This makes enough for 2 glasses – grab a friend and enjoy!

P.S. Thanks to those of you who joined me on the Quasi Cleanse! It really helped hold me accountable and made that week so much easier! 🙂
