Home Decor and Furniture

I still can’t believe we finally own our own home! It’s been our goal for several years. We honestly sacrificed a lot along the way living in TINY apartments to save for our home because we knew we wanted to live in LA but didn’t have the immediate capital. I feel so fortunate that we had this goal and we reached it — it makes it sooooo worth it and of course, now I want to decorate everything and have it all put together immediately. It will take time to get it exactly how I want it and I know I have to be patient, but exercising patience is not easy for me. I have been able to do a few things that I have been dying to do but have put off until we have our own place; primarily get a new couch! Our old one had been through 2 babies and 4 apartments so it was not cute (actually, it was kind of gross once it was outside you could see so many baby and errrr, maybe wine stains on it). Alas, we finally have a couch that fits all four of us and then some. I wen’t with a really light color which may have been a little optimistic on my end, but it is a stain-resistant fabric so spills are easier to clean up than on traditional fabric. Still, we’ve had to come up with a few simple rules to avoid messes. We don’t allow food or drink on the couch except for Bachelor Monday’s and no kids are allowed to that televised train wreck, so we hope it stays relatively clean.

I shared a quick walk-through of the downstairs area (just the living room and dining/kitchen area) on stories and you guys loved the mirrors and bar stools we have so I am sharing details here.  Luckily, a very talented interior designer friend of ours helped source these pieces to make it a California Beachy vibe for us and I have found links to most of the decor and furniture you see in stories. The barstools, I ruminated over for far too long and in the end, was advised to get something inexpensive so I don’t have to worry about kids climbing all over them. I am so glad we got the ones we did! I still have some things on my wishlist like loom chairs for our dining room and a black counter stool which would replace my “office” chair. (Quotes because as you can see in highlights if you watched the walkthrough my workspace is in the kitchen).

Eventually, we will get a new dining room table. I love this one, but despite the current table looking too small for this dining area, it functions in that it fits four people and we aren’t having many guests over during Covid! I guess we could say, I’ll table that for later. Wink wink.

Oh, and I am still thinking about painting the wall behind the dining table black. People keep trying to talk me out of it which of course, makes me want it black even more. What do you think about a black accent wall?
