How I Get Ready For Photo Shoots (Clean Beauty)

makeup routine with clean beauty

If you’ve ever scrolled through your feed and thought, ‘damn, these people always look like they’ve got their S together’ remember they probably don’t. Case in point? Me. Most days I am running from the gym to errands with my 2 kids in tow and a completely makeup-free face. If I’m a feeling ambitious I’ll use a tinted-moisturizer with SPF, but no matter what I’m probably more hot-mess-express than insta-ready goddess.

For the particular shoot, I called in the Glam Squad for help with hair and makeup because I wasn’t really going to dish on all these beautiful products without flawless application. We used all of my own products and I’ve got to say, it was really cool getting an expert’s opinion on them and getting loads of makeup tips in the process. Spoiler: I could be way more creative in this dept.

First, we use the tinted primer which is honestly like spackle in a good way because you look completely creaseless after application, but it’s lightweight. It’s made with pure mineral sun protection and does the best job at evening the skin tone and masking imperfections (I’ve been breaking out and it covers all that). I also wear it alone for the SPF on make-up free days!

Next SPF 18 foundation. My shade (Naturelle) matches my real (non-spray tanned) skin so we mixed a little concealer in to make it more golden then bronzed the heck out of me. Bronzer and highlight comes from the contour palette I use the light colors, but could probably use the dark ones too. Actually, I think that will be my next Glo purchase.  This palette has V low CPW because I’m addicted to bronzer but also because all the colors make amazing eyeshadows and the highlight is one of the prettiest I have seen. I’m talking ethereal glow that gets everyone telling you how LIT you look.

We used blush shade soleil. I live for this shade and I don’t really stray from it even though I have probably 25 blushes –it’s good any time of year and it’s just so pretty on and super easy to layer to achieve a more flushed look like I need in photos to avoid looking dead. This brush allows for light and smooth application so it never looks unnatural even when I am wearing ALL the blush.

The lip is where we went a little outside of the box and I’m kicking myself for not thinking of this before. We lined with this beautiful dark shade and the applied a crayon and then a touch (I mean just a freaking tap) of this creamy lipstick. It created the perfect bold lip that’s a little unexpected in the Summer (love) and just really makes the whole look POP!

Now a little setting spray (I’ve just been using rose water lately) and I’m good to shoot for a few hours without any issue. I won’t touch up my face makeup, but I do switch my lip 2-3 times in a shoot so each post looks different and I almost always use Glo Beauty lipsticks. They just stay so well and have so many beautiful colors.

I love sharing more of these behind-the -scenes posts. Sometimes even I feel like all creators must be camera-ready and well-dressed at all times, but I know that’s not at all true.  I hope you feel more empowered to create, navigate your feed without an ounce of comparison syndrome and try some new clean beauty products that are absolutely wonderful. *Glow Skin Beauty provided these products gratis, but all opinions are my own!
