Our Nighttime Routine (with Aveeno Naturals)

I have been compensated by AVEENO for this post; however, I am sharing my own thoughts. All opinions are my own.

Seasonal changes have a tendency of leaving even the softest of skin desert dry. When it affects me, I groan and quickly forget about it. When it affects one of my children, I spend hours researching every possible solution. When AVEENO® Eczema Therapy was recommended to me by our pediatrician because of the Active Naturals Colloidal Oatmeal formula which is clinically proven to relieve dry skin, I first googled ‘colloidal’* and then, bought all the things.

Since it was late at night, and I do what I can to avoid driving in LA, I filled my cart with products online. I got this to cleanse with, eczema moisturizing cream for everyday use and their Nighttime Balm to protect while he sleeps. You guys, I could notice a difference in his eczema after just one week. It’s not completely gone (of course, just like clearing our own skin, these things take time) but it is so much clearer. I’m also really happy that I found something for him that is paraben-free, steroid-free, fragrance-free, and hypoallergenic. (You can read more about all that on the National Eczema Org site.)

I’ll admit that I bathe him every night. Some people might be thinking ‘that’s crazy, you don’t wash dry skin every night’ but that’s part of our routine and it helps him calm down. I use Aveeno’s wash every night because it is so mild and wash and shampoo him at the end of the bath so he isn’t sitting in soapy water. I try not to let him bathe too long so moisture doesn’t get stripped away and as soon as I get him of the tub, I pat (don’t rub) excess water from his skin with the softest towels we own. I have to sneak his lotion on while I am reading or I try to make a game out of applying it because he doesn’t like to sit still long enough for me to get him lathered up.

*For those just as curious as I was, in chemistry, a colloid is a mixture in which one substance of microscopically dispersed insoluble particles is suspended throughout another substance.
